Polo Cross at Dhabian Equestrian Club:
Polocrosse it is a team sport that is
played all over the world. It is a
combination of polo and lacrosse. It
is played outside, on a field (the pitch),
on horseback. Each rider uses a cane
stick to which is attached a racquet
head with a loose, thread net, in which
the ball is carried. The ball is made of
sponge rubber and is approximately 4
inches across. The objective is to score
goals by throwing the ball between your
goal posts.
Anyone who can ride a horse can play
polocrosse, which also helps improve
riding skills. All ages and abilities are
encouraged to play and the Pony Club
have recognized polocrosse as a horse
sport.
To get started, players need a
recognized safety helmet, (available from www.jane-ellen.co.uk) a racquet and a ball and leg wraps and coronet boots for the horse.
Unlike polo, players are allowed only to play one horse, except in the case of injury. There is no restriction on the horse's height, although the ideal should not exceed about 16 hands. The space at dhabian equestrian club is not large enough for a full game but it is an ideal place to learn the skills involved with stick and ball techniques and improve on your polocross riding skills. There are plans to incorporate a full size pitch in to the development plan of the club in the future. So now is the time to learn and perfect your skills for the coming season..
The new season for Polo cross meetings will start in October 2009. There are only limited spaces available so please send us your interest in advance. E mail us at the below address to confirm your slot for the season.
Polo cross is also starting in other riding clubs in the UAE, including Dubai and Ajman so there will be plenty of places to meet and compete.
